VANISHING I express relation in all things
in nature with SOJO・SOKOKU from the old days. One
SOJO is MOKUSHOKA( Fire is born from Wood )・KASHODO(
Land is born from Fire )・DOSHOKIN( Metal is born
from Fire )・KINSHOSUl(Water is born from Metal
)・SUISHOMOKU( Wood is born from Water ).SOKOKU
is MOKOKUDO(Wood fights Land)・DOKOKUSUl( Land fights Water
)・ SUIKOKUKA(Water fights Fire)・KAKOKUKIN(Fire fights Water
)・ KINKOKUMOKU( Metal fights Wood ). As a young man I noticed that I
sought for immortality in free expression when I looked
back on my own molding activities. Now I am thinking that no
difference whether my art indoors or outdoors. When I use
white cloth or yarn for expressions I constantly
calculating haw to change the surface and exposures but I
occasionally obtain results through accidents rather the
from my calculated plan. These are times very important.
Conscious or unconsiously when I
meet these accidents they become fruitfull work
expression. This power is TARIKl. TARIKI power is a very
typical idea in Japan. When I was a boy my hope was to be to painter but my father did not agree and he said that I shouldn't study art and drama. At first I obtained his wishes but my feeling didn't change. Although I started to study design at school I had been dream artist. After I graduated I worked in the textile industry. But my students all the time I had questions about relation of art and design. These two fields were same to me. From that time my ideas changed about art and design. In my mine art and designer one. The creations are related to every thing and I understood that objects are born from mankind are to meet the last moment in the future. In order to achieve this expression I am usually using fire. I discovered this use of fire at Hamamatsu Open Air Exhibition in 1984. This work's title was SCORCHED EARTH. I had many accidents on the beach but I discovered many creative ideas. Fiber material is very convenient and easy to make plastic art. Anybody is able to express thereselves with art and feel freedom. My idea is that I woud like to connect language to form and body on future. I strong believe in this quotation by Galy Steiner. The sky can be our costumekkk. The land can be our pillowkkkkk We must try to live we thought ether without unnecessary thing. ( Quotation from “Nanimo iranai” written by Aiko Izumisawa ) 2000 Hideho Tanaka |
